FAQ
I believe my child would benefit in the GATE program. How can they join the program?
Students are nominated by their classroom teachers, and can be nominated by their parents. The nomination period took place in September. Testing for nominated students took place beginning in November, and will be finished in December.
If a student transfers to our campus from another Harmony school in our district, the GT committee will review their paperwork for acceptance. If a student transfers from another Harmony school from another district or a campus from another district, the GT committee reviews all paperwork to determine admittance into HSD's GATE program.
My child is a Kindergartner. Can they be tested and can they participate in the GATE program?
Yes. Our campus' GATE program begins with Kindergarten and extends into 12th Grade.
Which grades receive pull outs and how are the older students GATE needs met?
Currently, pull outs are conducted for GT students in grades 1st through 5th. Once testing has been completed, new students who are accepted into the program will begin joining pull outs in January.
Students in grades 6th through 8th receive differentiated instruction (as well as in grades K-5, and 9th through 12th), and have opportunites to join academic competitions throughout the school year. PBL projects also meet the needs of students in these grade levels.
Students in grades 9th through 12th can take advanced coursework. There are also opportunities for 10th-12th Grade students to take Pre-AP and AP classes that can earn the student credits towards college.
